Ounce of Prevention
Home Program
At Affordable Housing For the Carolinas, we believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Our Ounce of Prevention Home Program is built on this principle, recognizing that it is far easier and more cost effective to address small issues early rather than wait until they grow into major, costly repairs.

The program begins with a comprehensive home inspection, which allows us to assess the overall health of the home while also providing a valuable opportunity to educate families about proper maintenance. We empower homeowners with the knowledge and tools they need to preserve their homes for the long term, protecting both their financial investment and their family’s well-being.

This program serves a wide range of residents, including elderly homeowners seeking to safely age in place, single-parent households, disabled vets, families living at 80% average monthly income, those effected by disaster, and first-time buyers who may not know where to begin in caring for their most important asset, their home.

The need is urgent. A significant number of residents in the Carolinas are cost-burdened, meaning a large portion of their income is consumed by mortgage payments, leaving little left for routine maintenance and repairs. Without timely intervention, minor problems can escalate, leading to unsafe living conditions and costly renovations.
Through the Ounce of Prevention Home Program, we provide:
-
Comprehensive Home Inspections to identify and address issues early.
-
Spot Inspections to assess specific concerns or areas of risk.
-
Home Repairs that extend the life and safety of homes.
-
Educational Workshops & Classes that teach practical skills for home upkeep, energy efficiency, and long-term care.
By combining proactive maintenance with homeowner education, our program not only preserves housing but also promotes stability, dignity, and healthier living environments across the Carolinas.
