Preserving Affordable Housing: A Call to Action

A Family in Need

The pictures above is within the home of a grandmother who cares for her five grandchildren that was at high risk of a fire. Living at 30% of the average monthly income (AMI) this family of 6 lived with exposed wires in all of their electrical sockets, an unsealed fuse box as seen pictured above, and outdated wiring that posed an enormous fire risk. The situation was dangerous, but the family couldn’t afford to make the necessary repairs. Thanks to our supporters and the funds raised through events like The Harlem Nights Affair, Affordable Housing For the Carolinas (AHFTC) was able to step in and make the repairs, ensuring that the home is now safe for the children and the grandmother.

Before the repairs, this family lived in constant fear of a fire breaking out at any moment. The children were at risk every time they interacted with the electrical outlets. But after the work was done, the family had peace of mind knowing that their home is now safe, secure, and fit for the future. The transformation is not just physical—it’s emotional, too. It’s a story of hope, security, and a brighter future.

The Time to Act is Now

The need for affordable housing repair programs like AHFTC is urgent. With increasing costs and shrinking availability of affordable housing, the time to act is now. Families can’t wait for the crisis to get worse. They need our help today, and we are here to provide it—but we need your help to do so.

That’s why events like the Harlem Nights Affair are so important. They give us the resources we need to continue making a real difference in the lives of families across the Carolinas. The stakes are high, but together, we can make a lasting impact.

Raising Funds to Support Homeowners in Need

One of the ways Affordable Housing For the Carolinas is raising money to continue our mission is by hosting the Harlem Nights Affair on March 27, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM at 8600 MT Holly-Huntersville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. This event will be an evening of entertainment and fundraising, featuring live performances by Nicci Canada and the Dapper Street Band, with event hosts Larken Egleston and Commissioner LaToya Rivers. Guests will enjoy a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, a charity date auction, a silent auction of donated items and more, all while raising funds to help homeowners who desperately need repair assistance.

The funds we raise at the Harlem Nights Affair will go directly toward repairing homes for families who live at 80% AMI or below. This is not just another social event; it’s a call to action—a direct response to the growing affordable housing crisis in our region. By attending or supporting this event, you are helping us make a real difference in the lives of local homeowners.
